Taste of Thai Massage

Sunday, March 8th, 2020

1:30pm - 7:00pm

$100 per person

$175 for two

This afternoon workshop is geared toward massage therapists to experience a taste of wonderful Thai-Yoga massage techniques to add to your sessions, while giving and receiving great bodywork!

Thai massage is an ancient practice with its roots in Traditional Thai Medicine. It uses a wide variety of passive stretches, compressions, body leverage, and focused attention to create profound openings along Sen pathways (similar to Ayurvedic nadis or Chinese meridians or allopathic fascia lines), increasing ease of movement, lengthening muscles, softening fascia, and calming the body-mind. Clients and therapists alike love it!

We’ll start the afternoon by setting a comfortable space for everyone, no matter your experience or ability, before learning some of the basic techniques and philosophy of Thai Medicine and massage. Then you’ll be led through a series of passive stretches and deep compressions as you give and receive from each other. We’ll be working on the upper & lower body from a variety of positions. It's best if you are able to kneel comfortably, as work is done on a yoga mat or cushioned floor pad.

Please bring your own mats or blankets or comforters & sheet & pillow, and wear loose comfortable modest clothing that allows freedom of movement (such as yoga pants, sweat pants, loose cotton pajama pants, t-shirts, long-sleeve tops, sweatshirts - no jeans or tight shorts) and bring layers to wear for your own comfort.

Come with a partner and join us for this afternoon exploration of Thai Yoga massage! You'll walk away noticing different things in your own body, and with a new set of tools to use with your clients.

Healthy and effective touch has the power to encourage insight at all levels of experience and to cultivate deep presence. As yoga teachers and therapists, we use touch to communicate with our clients/students, inviting them to feel into the present moment and all that it offers physically, emotionally, and energetically. Holding space comes from an understanding of both the physical and energetic qualities of touch, as well as the powerful experiences that can result from our connections with one another. As we become more fluent, holding space for our own experiences, we gain skills and confidence to hold space for others.

This 20-hour experiential course invites you to develop your existing skills for self- observation, partner dialogue and healthy touch. To practice the art of holding space, we will explore a variety of practices, including basic Thai Yoga Therapy, which can teach us how to respectfully and safely move and touch another person’s body, while sharing dialogue to communicate levels of pressure, intensity, boundary, and satisfaction!

There are also discounts available for PKTA members and Yoga Studio Owners, please message for details.
